ARPS Celebrates Cambodian Culture and Community
On December 14, 2011 the Amherst-Pelham Regional Public Schools, with generous support from the district-wide PGOs, sponsored “Generations Together: A Cambodian Open House” at Crocker Farm Elementary School.
This unique evening was meant to celebrate Cambodian culture and recognize the school system’s commitment to students and families of Cambodian descent.
“We are thrilled that so many families participated in this wonderful event. It is always beneficial to bring people together and learn from their experiences,” cited Maria Geryk, Superintendent of Schools.
The evening included a traditional dance by members of the Amherst Public Schools Cambodian Affinity Group, a slide show depicting the history of the Cambodian community in Amherst, discussion groups with school administrators and a fabulous dinner.
“This event united students, families and school staff to celebrate the rich history of the Cambodian presence in Amherst which spans well over twenty years,” stated Marta Guevara, Director of Achievement & Equity. “Our town is graced by the presence and contributions of the Cambodian community.”
